ESPN wants to be THE College Sports Source.

That's why they have a channel called ESPN University, and they have rights deals with the SEC, ACC, Big XII, B1G, PAC12, American, Conference USA, Sunbelt, MAC, Ivy League, Atlantic 10, Northeast Conference, Hockey East, and BYU, What they don't have time slots on their major platforms for they want to put onto their new ESPN+ platform. They basically want it all.

They are working hard to renew their agreement with the Mountain West, and they made this play for the PAC12. ESPN does not like Fox having half of the B1G, Big XII, and PAC12. And they don't like Fox having the Big East. They want them all, but they won't overpay for them. Fox was willing to do that with the PAC12, Big XII, and the Big East. But at that time Fox did not have any of the B1G. Now that they do, I wonder if Fox will overpay for the other three again.

ESPN is genuine in their desire to have the PAC12, but their idea of what the PAC12 is worth must be very different that what Larry Scott thinks the PAC12 is worth. I think this is the issue. Also Larry Scott wants multiple partners for its Tier 1 rights, and ESPN won't take over that disaster called the PAC12 Networks and fix it without the good stuff too.
